Chart Analysis II

Make paragraph by using chart
This is a tutorial about information in a pie chart for the IELTS academic writing. There are two charts, which is bowed a pie or cake with several slices. This chart shows us the information, which in a pie chart. It usually contains the main features and comparison of each slice.
Based on the chart (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMurHxzKeyI&feature=related), talks about two countries, which have destinations countries, they are Australia and New Zealand. For Australia has three major destination country, which were visited, they are Japan with percentage value about 32.9%, the second one is China with percentage value about 24.6%, and the third one is Korea with 13.85% value of percentage. For New Zealand, three countries that become destination countries, they are Australia, United State (US), and Japan. Each country has 37.8%, 20.2%, 16.7% value of destination countries.
The largest percentage of New Zealand was Australia with percentage value about 37.8%, but it was disproportionately with Australia, it was not to be New Zealand as the main destination country. In other hand, the third largest country of New Zealand was visited namely Japan with 32.9%, but Japan was the largest destination country in Australia. Besides that, Australia and New Zealand had the same destination countries, they are China and United State, and they gave proportions and making clear contrast. It was be able to be looked that India was a significant and important destination for Australia’s good, but not for New Zealand.

Chart Analysis I

A.      Describing a graph about introduction to IELTS writing section 1
An introduction to IELTS shows us how to make paragraph by using graph. In this video, explains there are six possibilities or types of graph, which is used to get some information. It is Bar Graph, Line Graph, Pie Graph/Chart, Table, Flow-Chart, and Diagram. All those graphs are used to get some information and the most important thing is to understand what types of graphic, which is used for.
In this section only explains a graph, which has been explained, it is Pie Graph/Chart. Pie Chart is one of six types of graphs to get information, which is served by Pie Chart. It is bowed a cake that shows percentage of information. The characteristic of Pie Chart has slices of each slit.
B.       How to describe the graph
Actually, there are many ways to get information for example by seeing charts or graphs. In chart has many possibilities information, which is looked for. In this case, this writing discusses about the example how to describe the graph. On the following link (http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=zpwPMlGl_Ks&feature=related), it discusses about Internet usage demographics as a percentage of total internet usage in the United Kingdom. It shows how the process of change of internet users in UK.
In the chart, there are four categories of age, which included demographics of internet users. They are 15 years or more, 16-30 years, 31-49 years, 50 years or more.
Based on chart/graph above, it is be able to be defined that the value of 15 years or more category increases over the three years. For the value of older increases over the three years and it is similar of increasing of the younger. For the value of 16-30 years old, it is significant come down and probably 8% drop between 1998 until 1999, and 1% drop from 1999 until 2000. For 30-49 years old also come down, but it is not definitely as dramatically as 16-30 years old category. It looks 2% change from 1998-1999 and another 2% change from 1998-2000. So it can be described from 1998 until 2000 is gradual coming down.
After looking at the graph, it is be able to be made a paragraph. Usually, it will be two paragraphs, paragraph one contains an analyzing and paragraph two contains explanation, elaboration and summering, prediction, or comments. In paragraph one perhaps include seven sentences, each sentences contains:
·         Data type description:   mention what graph shows
·         Broad                         : mention the direction of the graph (going up or going down)
·         Minoe detail               :   describe about value in graph
·         Minoe detail               :   describe about value in graph
·         Minoe detail               :   describe about value in graph
·         Minoe detail               :   describe about value in graph
·         Conclusion                 :   resuming to data description

Writing Course

This is the Source of APA Style 6th Edition

Writing Assignment

First, I am going to explain the definition of APA Style in scientific writing. Based on definition of APA style, I conclude that APA style requires that information be cited in two different ways within the text and in a reference list at the end of the paper. The reference list should be on a new page, double-spaced, and use the hanging indent method (all lines after the first one are indented). APA style is usually used in scientific writing such as thesis and dissertation. If we use this style, we must watch all of the rules.
According to d.schaeffer in Library Guide, there are many ways to cite in text, for example cited from Journals, Magazines, and Newspapers. This is the way to cite those:
  1.  Author, A. A., Author, B. B., & Author, C. C. (Year). Title of article. Title of Journal, xx, xxx-xxx.
This is the way to cite text from books, chapters in book and reports:

  1. General Form will be: Author, A. A. (Year). Title of work. Location: Publisher.
  2. if only one author will be: Alexie, S. (1992). The business of fancydancing: Stories and poems. Brooklyn, NY: Hang Loose Press.
  3. Chapter in books will be: Booth-LaForce, C., & Kerns, K. A. (2009). Child-parent attachment relationships, peer  relationships, and peer-group functioning. In K. H. Rubin, W. M. Bukowski, & B. Laursen (Eds.), Handbook of peer interactions, relationships, and groups (pp. 490-507). New York, NY: Guilford Press.
  4.  Report Form will be: Shyyan, V., Thurlow, M., & Liu, K. (2005). Student perceptions of instructional strategies: Voices of English language learners with disabilities. Minneapolis, MN: National Center on Educational Outcomes, University of Minnesota. Retrieved from the ERIC database.(ED495903)
Second one, I am going to compare my research plan with previous research proposal. It was published by Putri Humaira (http://www.scribd.com/doc/47760690/improving-junior-hight-school-student-s-speaking-ability-by-using-videos). I took a topic about improving students’ speaking ability by using video. Actually, there are several distinctions in my research plan with previous research proposal. First, my research plan is not only using video, but also using voice recorder. Second, I will use the participant to senior high school students. Third, I will identify the effectiveness of videos in the speaking class in improving the students’ speaking proficiency. Fourth, I will describe the effectiveness of videos in increasing students’ motivation in the speaking class.

APA 6th Edition

APA Format–6th Edition
OVERVIEW–The American Psychological Association (APA) style is widely accepted in the social
sciences and other fields, such as education, business, and nursing. The APA citation format
requires parenthetical citations within the text rather than endnotes or footnotes. Citations in the
text provide brief information, usually the name of the author and the date of publication, to lead the
reader to the source of information in the reference list at the end of the paper.
NOTE: Although the examples in this guide are shown in single space, APA
style requires double spacing throughout (e.g. text, references, etc.)
APA RULES FOR THE REFERENCES PAGE – The following sections show some of the more
commonly used APA citation rules.
NOTE: All citations must be in the Hanging Indent Format with the first line flush to
the left margin and all other lines indented.

Web Sites in Parenthetical Citations: To cite an entire Web site (but not a specific document
within the site), it is sufficient to give the URL of the site in the text. No entry in the reference list
is needed. Example:
Kidpsych is an excellent website for young children (http://
www.kidpsych.org).
REFERENCE CITATIONS IN TEXT– APA utilizes a system of brief referencing in the text of a
paper, whether one is paraphrasing or providing a direct quotation from another author’s work.
Citations in the text usually consist of the name of the author(s) and the year of publication. The
page number is added when utilizing a direct quotation.
Indirect Quotation with Parenthetical Citation
Libraries historically highly value intellectual freedom and patron
confidentiality (LaRue, 2007).
Indirect Quotation with Author as Part of the Narrative
LaRue (2007) identified intellectual freedom and patron
confidentiality as two key values held historically by libraries.
Direct Quotation with Parenthetical Citation
Darwin used the metaphor of the tree of life "to express the other
form of interconnectedness–genealogical rather than ecological"
(Gould & Brown, 1991, p. 14).
Direct Quotation with Author as Part of the Narrative
Gould and Brown (1991) explained that Darwin used the metaphor of
the tree of life "to express the other form of interconnectedness–
genealogical rather than ecological”(p. 14).
CITING SECONDARY SOURCES -- When citing in the text a work discussed in a secondary
source, give both the primary and the secondary sources. In the example below, the study by
Seidenberg and McClelland was mentioned in an article by Coltheart, Curtis, Atkins, & Haller.
Seidenberg and McClelland’s study (as cited in Coltheart, Curtis,
Atkins, & Haller, 1993) provided a glimpse into the world
In the references page, you would cite the secondary source you read not the original study.

of reading aloud: Dual-route and parallel-distributedprocessing
approaches. Psychological Review, 100, 589-608.
